Setting up for Pickleball

You'll notice that the pickleball court has a smaller footprint than your usual tennis court, which makes it more accessible and easier to build in your own backyard.

We are here to show you how to build the ultimate backyard court.

Step 1: Find Your Spot

Find a flat, level piece of land that's at least 20x44 feet, the standard size for a pickleball court. You want a spot that gets plenty of sun, ain't too windy, and won't flood when it rains.

Step 2: Mark Your Territory

Get your trusty measuring tape and some marking paint, and outline the dimensions of your court. Don't forget the non-volley line, a seven-foot zone on either side of the net.

Step 3: Get Diggin'

Clear out any rocks, roots, and debris, then level the ground with a shovel. If the surface is bumpy, add a layer of sand to smooth things out.

Step 4: Put Up the Net

A pickleball net should be 36 inches at the center and 34 inches at the sides. Secure metal posts or PVC poles into the ground and attach the net.

Step 5: Setup Flooring

You have a few options now: You either setup your own concrete or asphalt or you can buy court flooring material that is readily available online. If you don't want to go this route because it is either too hard or too expensive, just find yourself any sort of material to cover up the sand and that could provide the pickleball with a good bounce (a harder surface material) and lay it all out on your 20x44' area. Just remember, folks, if you choose this approach you'd lose some of the performance you have at an actual pickleball court, but, if you're just trying to have some fun, go ahead with it.

Step 6: Paint the Lines

Use outdoor paint to mark the court with lines and court markings like the non-volley line and service boxes.

Pickleball Court

And there you have it, folks. Your very own pickleball court, ready for action. But don't forget to follow safety guidelines and building codes when constructing your court. Now go out there and show your opponents what you're made of.
